A digital badge is a verifiable online record of something someone has learned or achieved, such as a skill, a course, a qualification or a membership.
Unlike a paper certificate or a PDF, a digital badge is backed by information anyone can check: what was achieved, what it took to earn it, who issued it, when, and whether it is still valid.
Built on an open standard
Digital badges started at the Mozilla Foundation and are now based on the Open Badges standard. Every credential issued through Certify follows it and carries its details as data, including:
the badge's description and the criteria for earning it
the organisation that issued it
the issue date, and any expiry date
the recipient's details
Portable and shareable
Certify badges and certificates belong to the person who earned them. They can be added to a LinkedIn profile, shared on social media, added to an email signature or CV, and checked by anyone. See Sharing your digital credential.
