Some credentials are valid for a set period, for example a safety qualification that needs renewing every two years. Others never expire. It depends on what the organisation that issued yours has decided.
How do I know if my credential has expired?
If your credential has an expiry date, it is shown on the credential page. Once that date has passed, the credential is marked as Expired, both when you log in and on the public page anyone can see.
Does an expired credential disappear?
No. It stays in your account and its page stays online, unless your issuer deletes it. Anyone who opens the link can still see what you achieved, who issued it and when, and they will also see clearly that it has expired.
What can I still do with it?
You can still view it, share its link and download the certificate as a PDF, which will show the expired status. We don't recommend using an expired credential as proof that a requirement is still current, or keeping it in your email signature.
Is "Expired" the same as "Unverified" or "Blockchain pending"?
No. "Expired" only means the validity date has passed. "Unverified" and "Blockchain pending" are separate statuses about the issuer's verification and the credential's blockchain record. See Why does my credential say 'Unverified'? and Why your digital badge shows as "Blockchain pending".

Renewal is up to the organisation that issued your credential, as they decide what you need to do to renew it. Contact them directly. See When to contact your issuer.
